Allied Roofing Flat Roof

Flat Roof

Over the years, Allied Roofing in Fort Lauderdale, has developed and refined special installation techniques for Flat Roof Systems. Our installation procedures, in many cases, exceed building code requirements and have proven to be effective, preventing leaks while extending the life expectancy and durability of a flat roof.

Flat roofs are a very common roof system in South Florida. They are also overlooked due to the fact you cannot see them from the ground. Most flat roofs have zero pitch which means it is hard for the water to run off.

Since there are many different types of flat roofs, we will take the time to evaluate your roof and explain which system is best suited for you and the life of your roof. With the proper materials and professional installation, a flat roof can be enjoyed, trouble and maintenance free, for many years.

Thermoplastic Roofing

These systems are most commonly vinyl materials known as PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) membranes or TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin) membranes. They are applied by the use of hot air heat welding and chemical bonding with use of solvent adhesives or any combination of the two. These are high value investment systems that are meant to last many years in most environments. They are easily repaired by cleaning the surface and heating or chemically bonding a patch in place.

Asphalt Gravel Roof

Gravel used to be the most common system, also known as asphalt and gravel roofs. Their use is not recommended in newer construction as newer systems tend to be more effective.

Asphalt Built Up Roof

This is the most common type of flat roof available now. It is made up of multiple layers of reinforcing plies and asphalt forming a redundancy of water proofing layers. You can use either rigid insulation board foam (base layer or base layer with tapered) or Perlite materials. Several plies of fiberglass felts are layered in hot melted asphalt and topped with an additional coat of hot asphalt with embedded gravels or a granulated cap sheet membrane.

Modified Membrane Roofing

These are the new-age materials of flat and ply roofing options. They are meant to replace the hot asphalt gravel embedded surface treatments of the flat roofs. These membranes weather well and resist the damaging effects of “ponding” water. Because of a multitude of use applications and many acceptable methods of installation, they make good components for most roofing needs.

I Want a Flat Roof

Cold Applied Liquid Membranes

This is an increasingly popular choice for new roofs and roof refurbishment in the Fort Lauderdale area. No open flames or other heat sources are needed as the fiberglass reinforced systems provide seamless waterproofing around roof penetrations and details. These systems are based on flexible thermoset resin such as polyester and polyurethane. This is a more economic option (especially for residential), generally used for very small flat roof surfaces.
